Highlight Homes Broadens Its Commercial Portfolio With Recent Opening of Perk-n-Pooch in Sandy Springs

For more than 25 years, Highlight Homes’ Principal – Tony Pourhassan – has been a well-respected renovator, builder and developer in the Southeast. Responsible for such highly touted eco-friendly communities as Terra Sol in Gwinnett County, in more recent years his custom homes and quality crafted renovations have graced the pages of publications like the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Custom Home Magazine, Atlanta Home Improvement Magazine, Remodel Atlanta Magazine and more. With the shifting landscape of the Atlanta housing market, Tony has explored both old and new territories – finding a grand reception to his company’s remodeling skills among current homeowners. Most recently, he has ventured into the commercial realm with a major addition and renovation to College Park’s Red Oak Animal Hospital, as well as the complete construction of a new canine-and-coffee concept called the Perk-n-Pooch in Sandy Springs.

After opening its doors on January 1, 2013 – Perk-n-Pooch has been met with rave reviews from four-legged fans and their humans. This uniquely combined dog wash and coffee café provides dog owners with an opportunity to give their pet a bath while enjoying a specially prepared premium cup o’ joe.  Located in the Sandy Springs Crossing Shopping Center at 6690 Roswell Road Suite 360, the folks at Perk-n-Pooch invite you to bring your own Fido by for either a self-service or full-service bath so you can check out Highlight Homes’ handiwork up close and in person. Local Renovation and Custom Construction Company’s Latest Project Involves Unveiling of Perk -n- Pooch – a Unique Dog Wash and Coffee Shop in Sandy Springs

Highlight Homes has become accustomed to tongues wagging over the distinctiveness and quality craftsmanship of their work, but to set TAILS wagging is an entirely new “animal” for the local renovation and custom construction company. With their latest commercial project nearing the completion phase, Highlight Homes looks forward to expanding their fan base to the four-legged variety. If all goes according to plan, the doors to Perk -n- Pooch will open in time for dogs of the Dunwoody-Sandy Springs area to get gussied up before Christmas Day.

The wholly unique vision of local residents, the Guerrisi family – Perk -n- Pooch is a combination dog wash and coffee café located at 6690 Roswell Road, Suite 360 in Sandy Springs.  As Bassett Hound rescuers and avid coffee drinkers, “Perk –n- Pooch” is an amalgamation of two of the Guerrisi’s great loves – dogs and a piping hot cup of joe. In addition to a coffee counter and dog wash stalls, Perk -n- Pooch will offer free wifi, a small retail section and professional groomer (available by appointment.) Dog owners are welcome to wash their dogs themselves or pay a nominal fee to have someone do it for them while they relax and enjoy a delicious cup of coffee from local gourmet coffee supplier, Lakehouse Coffee. Also on the menu at the café portion of the establishment are an assortment of teas, fresh fruit smoothies, and D’lites ice cream.

“The location is terrific,” explains Tracey Vasallo, Perk -n- Pooch Business Manager. “There’s a wonderful park nearby and a popular gym right next door. Dog lovers can enjoy a day at the park with their pooch and then pop by our shop for a wash and a coffee before heading home. Busy dog owners can drop their pets off to be groomed while they work out at the gym, and then reward themselves with a low calorie, low carb, low sugar D’lites ice cream. Joe and Renee wanted to create something special for dogs and dog owners alike that boasts the appeal of a neighborhood coffee shop. I know they’ll achieve that, thanks in part to the hard work and talent of the team at Highlight Homes.”

Construction of Perk -n- Pooch does not mark the first time the Guerrisi’s have called upon Highlight Homes for their renovation skills. In 2009, the family hired Highlight Homes to help them with a kitchen and living room remodel that was later featured in Atlanta Home Improvement Magazine. They have since hired the company to convert their carport into a carriage house-inspired garage and have recommended Highlight Homes’ services to numerous friends and neighbors. When it came time for the Guerrisi’s to start their exciting wet-nosed, coffee-fueled venture, they knew exactly who they wanted to call to bring their vision to a stunning reality. Once construction is complete, the Guerrisi family and Tracey hope to open Perk -n- Pooch in mid-December 2012. Local Builder Constructs Pavilion Inside Cobb Galleria Centre for Charity Wine Tasting Event Portion of Georgia’s Largest Home Improvement Show

Award-winning Southern custom construction and home remodeling firm, Highlight Homes is proud and honored to take part in this year’s Spring Atlanta Home Show at the Cobb Galleria Centre on March 23 through 25. For 34 years, the Atlanta Home Show has appeared twice annually – presenting homeowners with a one-stop shopping experience and the opportunity to meet face-to-face with hundreds of companies offering the latest home remodeling products and services.

Rather than appear as an exhibitor, Highlight Homes wished to take on a more integral role in the 2012 Atlanta Home Show. When Highlight Homes’ Principal, Tony Pourhassan learned about the Wine & Design Experience and the charity it benefits, he didn’t hesitate to volunteer his company’s  skills, supplies, and time to this worthy cause. Housed inside a special pavilion constructed by Tony and the Highlight Homes’ team, a charity wine tasting event benefitting Hope Atlanta Programs of Traveler’s Aid will take place during the course of the Atlanta Home Show. For a $5 donation, guests will be able to sample a number of fine wines from many winegrowing regions around the world while helping an organization dedicated to the prevention and eradication of homelessness. The Wine & Design Experience can be found within the “Southern Style – Spotlight Savannah” special feature exhibit located at Booth # 147 and is sponsored by Buckhead Pizza Co.

“We’re very excited that Tony is doing this for us,” explains Show Director Michael Schoppenhorst. “He came highly recommended, and everything I’ve seen from him is outstanding. Hope Atlanta is such an important cause – particularly here in a city where the average age of a homeless person is eight-years-old. Tony’s pavilion and the visitors of the Wine & Design Experience will help us raise money while sharing a space that shows off some incredible design work over the course of the three-day show.”

In addition to over 350 companies represented – spotlighting everything from kitchen appliances and flooring for the interior of the home to landscaping, roofing and windows for the exterior of the home – the Atlanta Home Show 2012 will also feature exciting and educational sessions with HGTV’s Kitchen Cousins on the Home Show Stage, an appearance by HGTV’s Carter Oosterhouse, the See-Through House Exhibit, the Home for All Ages Exhibit, and much more. There will be new product launches and great home design ideas, as well.

Tickets to the nearly sold out show are just $10 for Adults. Children 12 & Under and Seniors 65+ (with ID) are free!  Military personnel and first responders receive a Buy One, Get One Free ticket offer with ID. Multi-day passes are $15. Highlight Homes’ Founder Tony Pourhassan Recently Took Part in the White House Energy, Environment and Conservation Roundtable Hosted by the Green Building Council of the Greater Atlanta Home Builder’s Association

Regardless of your politics and whether you live in a red or blue state, the U.S. government has expressed an increasing concern centered around green construction, energy efficiency, and conservation – three subjects that just happen to be near and dear to the heart of Highlight Homes’ founder, Tony Pourhassan. Therefore, it goes without saying that Tony was more than a little flattered and honored to be invited to take place in last week’s White House Energy, Environment, and Conservation Roundtable hosted by the Green Building Council of the Greater Atlanta Home Builder’s Association.

Tony – a proud member of the Green Building Council since 2011 – took his seat beside other prominent Atlanta builders, representatives from the General Services Administration (GSA) and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Georgia Environmental Finance Authority, Atlanta Housing Authority, and local government officials to talk about the future of sustainability, clean energy, conservation, and green jobs in our country. Topics discussed during the January 31 meeting  included incentives, tax credits, code enforcement, and programs designed to encourage sustainability, clean energy, conservation, and all that goes into building an “America that will last.” The insights gleaned from this meeting will be shared with the White House.

“I was encouraged that we were able to put politics aside and discuss the future of our country from an eco-conscious standpoint,” said Tony. “I feel a real responsibility as a home builder to persuade other builders and home buyers to seek out earth-friendly, energy efficient for the good of their families and – ultimately – the good of our planet. That’s why I was honored to be invited to become a member of GAHB’s Green Building Council and to take part in this Roundtable. As a small businessman, I am extremely passionate about creating new jobs, particularly those in the green sector. It’s definitely heartening to think that the government is listening to what my colleagues and I have to say.”

While the meeting may have come to a close, Tony and his fellow council members were assured that this is just the beginning of the conversation. In the future, the White House’s Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) will be contacting participants of the Roundtable to take part in conference calls and dialogues covering a wide range of topics pertaining to energy, the environment and conservation.
