Highlight Spotlight: The City of Dunwoody

Dunwoody - King and Queen Towers - WikiCommons - Peter KaminskiHighlight Homes is thrilled to announce that we’ve broken ground on not just one, but two stunning semi-custom construction homes in Georgia’s City of Dunwoody. Incorporated as recently as December 1, 2008, some may be surprised to learn that Dunwoody has a long and rich history. What was once home to Cherokee Indian tribe of the Creek Confederation  in the early 1800’s would soon draw Charles Alexander Dunwoody – for whom the city is named. As the son of one of the founders of Roswell’s historic mill, Charles followed in his father’s entrepreneurial footsteps and started his own shoe manufacturing venture in Roswell. After serving in the Roswell Guards and Roswell Battalion during the Civil War, Major Charles Dunwoody returned to Roswell to find much of the city – including the mill – had been destroyed. He chose to make his new home near what is now Chamblee-Dunwoody Road and Spalding Drive. More and more families moved to the area following the arrival of the railroad in 1881, and it has continued to thrive ever since.

Well-known today as an affluent suburb of Atlanta, Dunwoody is situated in DeKalb County, poised between Fulton County to the north and west, Interstate 285 to the south, and Gwinnett County to the northeast. Rolling hills, towering pines and stately hardwoods dot the landscape, as do some of North Atlanta’s finest homes, shops and restaurants. Among one of the city’s most popular draws is Perimeter Mall – which is filled to overflowing with upscale stores such as Nordstrom, Macy’s, Coach, Michael Kors, Von Maur, and Z Gallerie, as well as great dining destinations like Capital Grille, Seasons 52, Goldfish, The Cheesecake Factory and more. Dunwoody also offers close proximity to “pill hill” – a sprawling medical community that includes Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, Northside Hospital, and the award-winning St. Joseph’s Hospital. Community-focused Dunwoody is home to a network of trails and excellent parks, and plays host to a jam-packed calendar of events including Food Truck Thursdays, Lemonade Days, Dunwoody Arts Festival, Dunwoody Restaurant Week, Fourth of July Parade, Butterfly Festival, and Light Up Dunwoody. It’s really no wonder why luxury home builder, Highlight Homes, would choose to build here in this very special community.

Construction is underway on two sprawling manors overlooking a small pond along Dunwoody’s Leisure Drive located within three miles of the esteemed Dunwoody Country Club. Both homes will boast upwards of 3800 to 4400 square feet on unfinished basements – priced at right around $999,000 each. One home will feature the 5 bedroom/4.5 bathroom West Hampton floorplan – touting luxury touches such as a coffered ceiling in the gourmet kitchen and breakfast room, vaulted family and keeping rooms, a covered porch that leads out onto a massive deck, spacious master-on-main, and a number of flex spaces that could serve as a home office, secondary bedroom, teen retreat, guest quarters, and more. The second home will feature the 5 bedroom/5.5 bathroom Collins Hill floorplan – also showcasing its fair share of special features including a rocking chair front porch in front and covered porch in back, side entry garage, dramatic trey ceiling in the master-on-main, two-story family room and foyer, vaulted keeping room with fireplace, formal dining room, and more. Students who live in one of these homes may attend local public schools Kingsley Elementary, Peachtree Charter Middle, Dunwoody High Schools or the highly respected private Davis Academy and Marist School. Just around the corner lies the campus of third-largest institution in the University System of Georgia – Georgia Perimeter College – which is one of the nation’s fastest-growing metropolitan two-year colleges.

Get in on the ground floor of one of these beautiful homes in one of Atlanta’s most desirable areas and be afforded access to a very special custom home experience where you can pick out all of the details that will make this home uniquely your own.
